What I did was soak it in that Gunk engine degreaser. And I mean SOAK. Let it sit overnight while applying more and more degreaser. This helps loosen up the grime. Then the next day I used a brush and cleaned it up the best I could.

After that I went to the local spray-off car wash and pressure washed it. Use the wheel cleaner there, the spray-off I go to has some pretty heaavy duty wheel cleaner. Let it sit and then pressure wash it again. Repeat if necessary.

By now there will be no more grime on the trans and everything will be degreased nicely. Then I just used some Dupli-Color Aluminum colored spray paint and gave it a little paint. I would personally use a primer and Alumablast paint next time. Hope this helps!

You're talking about just the transmission case right?

A good degreaser, pressure wash and then some CLR and a stiff brush for any stains. 94

We rented a pressure washer from Home Depot for 60 bucks for the day, it was gas powered and we sprayed it for about 5 mins. It was literally spotless. Originally it was to re stain a deck, however while spraying the deck- it not only took the paint off the deck, it dug holes into the wood.

Home Depot Rents pressure washers here that are so strong it'd literally peel the paint off your car. I ruined a few pieces of wood on the deck that way. After I ruined a piece I decided to see if it would cut a hole through a 2x6....went through like butter.

For the trans case we poured simple green over it---waited 10 mins, sprayed her down from about 24" away....always moving the wand. 5 mins later it looked like it was just dipped in silver paint.
