WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH MY MOTOR~!!!!!!
Took my fresh build to the tuner. PR3 pistons in a b18 block. 15 htousandths removed from head/block that I know about. crower stage II's. Anyway, as soon as it hits VTEC it dies. I wasnt there but tuner said he heard it too. SO Im thinking bent valfves. Motor will not crank over at this point. I take it home, take the head off, everyhting looks good, i pour some water into the chambers and I see it slowly go down. So im htinking bent valves.
Today, I pour citrus cleaner in the combustion chamber and it doesnt leak. I poue brake cleaner in the ports and it doesnt leak. I took the valves out and they looked straight, they rolled straight, and when placed in a drill they rotated perfectly centered. So I havce no idea what the heck is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you please explain exactly what is happening?

If you poured water intot he cylinder and it leaked down out of the cylinder then you have cylinder leak. As for why it won't crank does it crank but not start or will it not crank period. Alos look at your spark plugs. Are they melted? do they have spots on the white ceramic. If they melted you blew up your motor. if they have spots you where detnoating. With your setup you should have been running at least 95 octane if not 100. what where you actually running. And did you have an ECU chip? if so which one?

Let me try again. it was on the dyno being tuned, and the tuner said when he hit VTEC it died. He said he heard piston to valve. I get it towed home. Its not even cranking over at this point. I take the head OFF. Flip it over, pour water into the combustion chambers (NOT THE CYLINDERS!!) the water slowly seeps down. So im pretty sure its bent valves. With the head off the m oltor cranks just fine.
The reason im confused is that now the chambers DONT leak. and I took out the valves and they all look straight. 100 percent STRAIGHT!!!!!!!

pretty trusting of you to let some tuner run your engine on the dyno without you there.... how well do you trust this tuner...who built your engine? did the builder check clearances....

I built the engine. The machine shop looked at the head and said i got sudden low oil pressure, which I think is due to a spun rod bearing. Which Earl tried to warn me about cause my clearances on the rod bearings were like 1.3-1.4 thousands. Gonna take a look at the bearings tonight, Im pretty sure thats what happened, a spun bearing. Because the valves are straight, and the motor obviously had enough oli pressure for VTEC engagement so something must have gone bad all of a sudden as soon as those RPm's rose. Ill know tonight.

On a side note at the bottom of your posts it says that you have a set of itb's for sale. If they are still for sale, I am VERY interested in them. I would like a pic first if at all possible. Thanks and sorry about your motor.

sorry, someone already sent money for the ITB's.
Anyway, I drop the oil pan. Theres some copper colored shavings in there. I pull out my rod bearings. They look normal except that some of em have like a mirror polished surface (on the edges of the surface actually). Does that mean they are rubing the crank? Could this have caused a drop in oil pressure? Cause after that dyno run my cam caps and cams have slight signs of no oil. Theres some black marks, just a little bit. Before this, they were fine. But I never reved it ot 5500 like the tuner guy did. So is that what spun bearings look like? Polished?

I doubt the bearings spun, the back of em looks good as new. But what the heck is up with those shavings in the pan?
Oh, sidenote, the clearance on the bearings upon initial assembly was like 1.3 thousands. Earl, you were right, this was too tight.

spun bearing would make a sound like a clicking. i dont think its a spun bearing. umm when u say it dies u mean the car turns off? umm well the onkly thing i can think of is when my cars distributor went bad it wouldnt rev past 3k check the internals on ur distributor. hope u get it fixed soon. good luck

??????DIED not dies. SINGULAR! It died after being broken in for 20 miles, it died on the god dahm dyno as soon as VTEC hit......

what condition are the pistons in??
what condition are the pistons in??
pistons are good. Im starting to think its coil bind. There reall;y is no other explanation. It died as soon as VTEC engaged. Im just glad te cams didnt break. SHould know by tomorow.
my mains are fine. But there seemed to be greenish oil on them. Could a bad head gasket cause the motor to seize? If it was leaking coolant into oil passages?
sounds like an electrical issue to me.
an engine will run on low oil pressure, w/ a leaking head gasket and with spun rod bearings.
it could be a ground issue, or an issue within your wiring harness. how was vtec wired? i'd look at the harness where you hacked into it...then take a look at the ecu side...

the VTEC wire was disconnected (bad crimping) but that wouldnt eplain why my motor wouldnt turn over afterwards. Im starting to think it was hydrolock due to a bad headgasket. I reused it 3 times, and there appeared to be milky oil on my mains. Anyone ever heard of hydrolock due to bad headgasket?
