What head studs to use for ls/vtec?
I thought I saw somewhere that for ls/vtec using b16 head you had to use combo of gsr,ls studs. Is that true? What if I use a gsr head would it be the same thing? Where would I get them If I need to to do this.
i'm sorry. I ment to tell you that I was going to use arp. It was the combination of gsr/ls lengths and placement in the block for ls/vtec that I was curious about, or are they all the same.

This is just to clarify not to clown. Always use the bolts or studs for the gsr on an ls/Vtec. Do not use the bolts to match the head. I.e. B16 head- b16 bolts. this will not work. I'm sure sgT meant this.

2POINT6, actually, the b16a head bolts will 'work' but the GSR head bolts are about 1/4" longer and therefore provide more thread contact deeper into the block. This is the reason for using the GSR lengths.
We've used b18c head studs in a b16a with no problems.
And the b16a/b18c head bolts that i've compared have been the same length.
So afaik the b16a and b18c were identical.
And to my knowledge arp doesnt make b16a studs.

I thought you are supposed to use the studs that match the head? B18C head, use B18C studs/bolts. B16A head, use B16A studs/bolts. (B16A studs from Ben@importparts) Heres the thread, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=86055 I would like to know as well since I am right in the middle of doing my LS/VTEC as well. Thanks guys! Lates.
My experience with the head bolts is based on experience building ls/Vtec set-ups.
The b16 bolts are shorter as stated by others. B16 headbolts in this situation (LS/Vtec) Will only turn into the head about 1/2". this is not enough "thread" to hold up over time. It will Torque to spec but remember this was not a factory designed motor. I have seen the B16 head bolts pull the threads right out of the block. Your Decision. The extra length of the GSR bolt is added insurance against this obviously. I am not trying to start a flame war here, but many of you may Specs and what not, but you might not have ever built an ls/vtec. No desrespect, as I am not an expert either, but I have built my share. I have personally experienced this (b16 bolts not working) myself. For the doubters, good luck. Use the bolts from the B18c.

To my knowledge ARP only made head bolts for the B18C, teh D16, and the H22. Using the ARP B18C bolts will work on the B16 engine, but I think its recommended to put in the washers as shims so that the nut will bolt down onto the head properly (using the washers as shims basically)
Now if you were using stock Honda head bolts, I think you do use the appropriate head bolts for the corresponding head.

i have ARP head bolts on my B18b and on the box it says: application for B18c and B18a. and you guys are saying that the bolts are diffrent? so is there something wrong w/ my head studs? thanks
