what exaclty does an oil filter do??
The best way to learn is to take an old one and cut it apart. The paper you will find inside has a controlled porosity. So particles larger than the pore size get trapped in the paper, and the liquid oil goes thru.

it filters out the tiny particles that are in your motor oil caused by stress and every day driving. the friction causes these tiny particles to become what they are the oil filter filters out as much as i can. someone elsechime in here. am i on the right track?
No it is there as a decoration, oil doesnt flow through it.
