it is done for a couple of reasons.

1. to repair a damaged cylinder wall
2. allows the combustion area to handle boost better

How much does it usually cost to overbore an engine .2L? (1.8-2.0)

 

Sleaving can run as much as $1100.

You can find it for less though.

 

To just overbore it, it won't be much....like $100-120 or so. But to go all the way from 1.8L to 2.0L reliably, I believe you have to bore it to 85mm or more. That's too much for stock sleeves (too weak). So then you'll have to resleeve it. When you resleeve it, you can go pretty high.
