What does everyone know about EGR valves?
I have a hf motor which i swapped into a std civic to make a commuter car. It works great (44-49mpg) But the civic didnt have a plug for the hf egr valve? The check engine light is always on and it throwing the code for egr. How could i hook this up or could i just hard wire it so its in the open or closed position all the time?? Is there any harm in not having it hooked up?
You have me confused a bit.
So the civic is giving you a code for the EGR.Then it must have a connector. And the motor you just swapped in has an EGR valve?
From what you are saying it sounds like you just have the wrong connector. Is that correct?
Like was said it will run lean and you will be poluting NOx everywhere. The EGR is for the reduction of Nox. It reduces combustion temps by adding already burnt air back into the IM.

HF engine has an EGR system, right?
ECU from the HF donor car wants to see an EGR system, right?
So all you need is wiring that's not present in your car's wiring harness.
Find a wiring drawing for an HF car. Add whatever you need. (Easy for ME to say, right?) Point-to-point wiring is possible, but that'll be confusing for the next guy who works on your car. Integrating something into your wiring harness is more difficult (more expensive).

Your right it has a hf ECU and HF motor but the civic and its wiring harness didnt have a plug because the civic didnt have a EGR. The egr plug has three wires. Im guesing
one positive
one neg
one into ECU pin?
I was thinking if its a valve it will open and close right. Well can i just make it always stay open? What will happen if its always open?? I assume its closed since its not connnected?

The EGR is activated to the load on the engine. Yes it will idle bad with it open.
Sounds like you need to run a wire or two from the ECU connector.
I have to check on this but you either have a ground and two positives. One pos to move open and one to move closed.
or it could be like was said ground and pos to work motor and one for responding the position of the valve.
Where is my book? at the other shop. of course!
EDIT: I'm still asleep, Hello.
You have a vacuum line hooked up to it. so vacuum will open it from the EGR solenoid. It is located in the black box where all the vacuum lines go into.
Then you have a ground and a signal wire to run for position of valve.
I still have to look at the schematic to be sure.
