'96 is OBD2, right?
So the EVAP system probably consists of several solenoid valves, a charcoal canister, lots of vacuum hoses, and a pressure sensor on the gas tank. Something's broken.
The code (92) says which system isn't working (EVAP). You still have to check all the components out. It might be a $40 valve you have to replace, or maybe it's just a vacuum hose that came loose. Your Helm shop manual will have all the details... See if you can find one at a library?
