Thats a LS block..just not sure which year but thats probably it..! problem solved!(?)
Yes, definately the water temp. Early model (OBD0) motors had these on the block rather than next to the thermostat...

K, if that 'big allen wrench' is for coolent...then what about the *other* 'big allen wrench to the *right* of the oil filter???? this is a B20...

That plug to the right has oil behind it. You can use that for a PCV system for CRV and LS vtecs. You have to put a barb on the end of it and run it to a catch can to use it. Usually on B series vtec motors, there is black box that goes there and is for the PCV system.

Those big "hex" plugs are where they cap off the coolent passages in the block. What they do is cast the block then drill holes through it to make the coolant and oil passages, they then put those caps over the drill holes and voila, you have a passage inside the block.

This is because you can't cast an object with voids inside of it.
