Dear I have HONDA Civic 1999 VTI Oriel with Automatic Transmission.
Problem is that since from last one week, whenever I switched on the car in morning or after every 6+ hours, I hear a weird TIK TIK TIK sound coming just below the tappet cover of my engine.
When every I give accelerate the TIK TIK sound also become fast
BUT THIS SOUND JUST COMES FOR ARROUND 1 MIN ONLY AND THEN IT FINISHES AUTOMATICALLY, and then Engine becomes smooth as usual.
During this TIK TIK sound engine also vibrates a lot during idol position

Can anybody guide me what is this sound?

Could be the lost motion plunger sticking because of oil coking. The only thing that makes sense since it only occurs for about a minute. This plunger is in place to hold the vtec rocker against the cam.

You could also be in need of a valve clearance adjustment.

 

I would say valves. Valves on my 99 civic were noisy until it warmed up. Was embarassing in the winter because it was so loud, wasnt too bad in the summer.

 

So do you recommend for just tuning of the car or is there something I have to do more to finish this sound?

 

Take it to a mechanic and tell him you want him to adjust the valves. If that doesnt fix it you have bigger problems.

But dont just go in and tell him its ticking, theyll most likely want to rip the entire engine apart. When i was getting an oil change done at midas once (I know it sucks but i didnt have time to drive across town to my mechanic, and i didnt have lifts or a jack at the time) they noticed it was ticking and offered to tear the entire engine apart, at the low low cost of like 800 dollars and find out what the problem was...
