weird clutch issue
Yesterday I was driving--89 Civic d16a6 motor, si trans--I went to push in the clutch and I heard a "clunk" and all of a sudden the pedal dropped to the floor. I immediately thought I either broke the pedal assembly from such a heavy clutch (Exedy 3 puck) or the clutch cable broke. It turns out it was neither--the clutch release arm all of a sudden had like 2" of freeplay so I tightened the clutch cable (quite a bit) and drove home like nothing happened. Now, I have taken the car out a few times and the car shifts fine and there are no odd noises --what could have happened? I have heard it might be throwout bearing spring related--but that is usually on an incorrect install--I remember specifically installing the spring on the throwout bearing word for word via the FSM. I am stumped, it drives fine, but I don't want to be causing any damage or wearing out my clutch in a short period of time--I also would prefer not to have to drop the trans as I just got this build together not more than 2 weeks ago. Any help would be great, thanks.

how long have you had the clutch on the car? If there was a throwout bearing problem or the spring installed incorrectly then you would have seen it from the jump probably. I had an issue with the ball joint that holds the fork in place going through the fork, but on a hydro tranny. There was about 2 inches of play but it could still release the clutch. Maybe that is it.
Its a new build--I had the clutch in another build--but it sat most of the time and had some problems--so there maybe is like 100 miles total on it. I have been breaking it in. Exedy 3 puck ceramimetallic.
