Default water pump/coolant flow

how can you tell if your water pump is working good or not?...i tried squezing the hoses while it was idleing to feel for pressure surges but i didnt feel anything and with the cap off it didnt look like water was movin,is this normal?does it need to be warmed up or more rpm's to notice?

The car would over heat, almost instintly if the pump was bad. Also the gasket starts to leak!!

and it would most likely leak if it went bad

yes it does need to warmed up because unless its warmed up the thermostat will be closed, wait till its gets to operating temperature then try it
