Default vx ecu w/ si head

I have a friend that plans on installing a z6 head on his z1 (vx) block...my question is will the p07 ecu that he has now work with the z6 head? i ask this question because using the p28 ecu will be fairly useless because vtec crossover is at 5700 rpm and his of course the vx redlines at 6000 rpm also i think the o2 sensor might throw a code because of it being a 5 wire??? idk...so what do you guys suggest? will it work?

-- yes it should work, but it might not be performance oriented, especially if you stick with the VX transmission (way long gear ratios). I suggest using a P28 ecu.A Z6/Y8 tranny is suggested if you plan to use an Si/EX head.

-- False, if the P28 is completely stock (not reprogrammed). A stock P28 ecu kicks on vtec at 4400rpm and redlines at 7200rpm. Once you guys put the Z6 head on the VX block, his powerband should pretty much match that to a Z6 engine, meaning he could redline at 72000rpm safley.

also i think the o2 sensor might throw a code because of it being a 5 wire??? idk...so what do you guys suggest? will it work?

-- yes this will be an issue. You'l have to do some minor repinning of the 02 sensor.

hes not going for extreme performance he just wants a cheap way of getting a bit more power out of that econobox its basically gonna be free because i gave him the ex head off of my coupe and my stock ecu...so all he'll have to pay for is a headgasket and a timing belt....i always thought vtec crossover on ex/si's was 5700???...i never drove on my stock motor enough to really know ...thanks for the help!

bump....need a confirmation will his stock vx block be able to turn 7200 rpm's with 170,000miles or should he stick with the p07 ecu which has vtec at 3500?

also i thought ex/si's vtec crossover was at 5600-5700 rpms confirmation on this would be helpful too

using the vx ecu would make his car run like a vx... kind of pointless if he wants a performance gain.
In my opinion if he has done normal oil changes and not seriously abused the original motor then he will be perfectly fine revving to 7200.

Case in point: when I first swapped in my b18c5 into my 93 si hatch I had no choice but to run the car on a stock p28 since I didn't want to make it obd2.
Needless to say, the car didn't run much differently then it did before my swap, except it would bog really bad @ 4400 when vtec switched over. The cams and breathing capacity of the b18 werent at all optimized with the sohc (stock) program... My d16z6 might have been quicker with the proper ecu then my b18c5was with the wrong ecu program - it was hard to guage the difference and therefore beyond dissapointing. As soon as I got a rechipped P28 with the vtec crossover @5700 and proper maps it was a night and day differece. Just my 2 cents. I would even venture to say that a ex/si ecu might even make his car faster without swapping motors since the vx one has such ultra conservative fuel maps stock.
