VW owners I need help....
First off, I don't know jack about VW's, but I was trying to help my co-worker out with some issues her car is having. She has a '99 Jetta, 2.0 4banger, 42,000 miles, and auto tranny. She's also one of those people that thinks that cars just need gas and they're fine....Anyway, she told me that it was making a weird squealing sound while she was driving so I told her I would take a look at it after work. The first thing I did was check her (I mean the car
)fluids. The car was low on oil so we drove to Auto Zone and got a quart. I checked the brake and power steering fluids and they were fine. Then I search the engine bay for the auto trans dipstick and I felt like a dipstick because I couldn't find it. Where in god's name is that thing??? I checked her manual and no luck. So we test drove for a few miles and I found that the power steering whines a lot, but no serious sqeauling. Is this typical? Any comments? How the f*ck do you check the auto tranny fluid?

Come on guys, I know this is HONDA tech, I've been here long enough to know that. It's just that there are plenty of VW guys that reside here as well. I'm just waiting for them to jump on the thread...hopefully
the car's manual should have a pic of the engine bay with everything labeled.... but then again maybe VW didnt think of that..... hahahaha

It did actually have a picture of the engine bay with everything labeled and the auto tranny dipstick was nowhere to be found. I turned that manual inside-out! It was really pissing me off! My friend was laughing at me because she knows that I like messing with cars. Anyway, she told me today that the car didn't make the noise on her way to work. Oh well....

Ok, my fiance has the same car. I did the samething when I decided to give it a tune up. I couldn't find the transmission fluid dipstick. The reason is because they don't have one. The VW Jetta's transmission is suppose to be mainteance free and never need changing unless under severe conditions like constant towing. Even though, it was maintance free I still wanted to change it, and found out the only way to do it, is to bring it in. The dealer has the only tools that can drain and pressurlize the transmission system. The same thing with the rear brakes. You can't turn the piston back into the cliper unlike the Hondas where you can use a screwdriver, unless you get this special tool with two pins sticking out. Goodluck
That sucks! Pretty soon we won't even be able to give any new car a tune up
