vtec VS ivtec whats the diff
and why do you think it sucks?
have you even driven a RSX type S?
i own one and have to say it does not SUCK at all.
i am interested in why you think it sucks though

Interesting. Someone who doesn't know the difference but thinks one version sucks?
i-VTEC is best summed up as the standard VTEC + electronically controlled adjustable cam gears. Cam phasing is thus continously adjustable throughout the rev range in addition to the 2 stage cam profiles and, on DOHC, independent control of each intake and exhaust valve. It's just a better overall system that's even more capable of optimizing power throughout the rev range than standard VTEC.
And it doesn't suck. The new K20A is a remarkable motor, both more powerful and dimensionall smaller/lighter than the outgoing B series engines. It's also rumored by Honda to have significantly more potential for NA power output.

Good reply Texan.
Are you the Texan from the other forum. I think it was Purehonda or something? You knew everything and everyone was asking you for help.
Anyway, good to see you here on HT if that's you.

Yeah, that'd be me. Though I certainly don't know everything, and especially here at HT there is an amazing amount of knowledge on a relatively small board. I find myself reading and learning again for the first time in awhile.

ok now that i understand the diff i just thought they suck because the new SI is slow i have race a few diff ones and i have a del sol with a b16a2 and i owned all them some where moded so now i must ask i'm going to do a swap should i go Ivtec or stay with vtec and what are the specs on a stock rsx type s thank

The new SI is the worst possible example of the K20 engine in full i-VTEC trim. It should have at least 200hp, but that'd cut into RSX sales hence the reduction to 160 with no real RPM potential.
And why in the hell would you swap OUT a B16 for a hybrid 1.8???? If you want power, just turbocharge the B16. It'll own any NA build.

You can't judge a motor based on the car its in. The Yamaha SHO motor is a fine example of a great motor in a crappy car. You put a b18c5 into a pickup truck and you're going to have a great motor in a crappy application.
Besides, the new Civic SI has the crappy version of that engine.
