vtec trouble
i bought a car recently that has a d16z6 swapped in. its a 94 cx hatch. the vtec was not wired in and i dont know where to go from there. i know i need a new computer for sure but thats as far as i go.
can you tell me what else i need to do in order for the vtec to work?
also could you tell me why the car smokes at higher RPMs my guess is the valve seals.. it has an older head on it right now. i have another one im putting on so im not worried about it, but if it is the rings than i need a rebuild right?
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

well if its smoking in higher rpms, like VTEC.. probably your valve seals. If you have another head I would highly suggest trying that head, would be a good indication.
Also, I would recommend compression and leak down test, that would also be a good indication if your rings, head gasket were bad. My gsr was burning oil in high rpms... my ecu was chipped for a d15 turbo so it was running really rich. I think it might not be burning oil now... *knock on wood*
Could also be carbon build up.. coolant, check levels?
As for the wiring, my friend just did a b16 swap in a 95 dx that was a d15. Yes he got a b16 ecu, and he ran a vtec wire to his ecu, from his vtec solenoid. thats all u have to do. he also wired a vtec light but thats no big deal.

ill keep you posted on how it goes..
np bro.
Also know... these honda motors typically burn oil..... its really typical of a VTEC motor to burn some oil.
My buddy got a brand new k24 for his race car and 5k miles later it burns oil. When people beat the **** out of their motors, it will lead to wear and tear early on...
as for rebuilds, it can be very expensive... to rebuild my gsr block with ITR internals would cost me about 1400. To rebuild my head about 700.
