Let me get this straight. You want your shift light to engage your vtec? Or do you want a light that turns on when vtec engages? Either way it sounds a little strange.

I have used shift light outputs and relays to activate VTEC before, but you can only do it if you're using a non-VTEC computer, otherwise, you'll be in limp mode because the solenoid won't be hooked to the ECM.

Why i think that's just the coolest idea in the world. "Have your shift light activate VTEC", wow i never thought of that one... hehehe j/k.. I wouldn't plan one messing with your VTEC engagment point unless you have a somewhat built motor. Have fun doing whatever you want tho

yes you can.

it is a valid reason, but make sure you set it as close to where it is meant to engage for performace reasons...

the BEST way to do it is a VAFC.

actually it would be to get ahold of the correct ecu

dont' do dat, it dont' help any improvement on ur engine,
it only cause trouble if u plan to mess around wit ur vtec switch or activate it
anyway vtec usallly ingage at 2,500 rpm and depeds on ur throttle position
leave ur vtec alone rice boy
1) speak ENGLISH
2) your wrong
3) if you would have READ this thread, you would realize he dosent have the correct ecu and vtec isnt engaging.

Jared has said he uses a relay to switch teh solenoid.

so the output from your shift light should connect to a normally open relay that closes when it gets a signal.

this should be attached to a 12v source and the Vtec SOLENOID. (caps off - opps)

this is probaly a simple expalination, but if you understand - great!

if not - when i got time ill expand it...

Here's something.. Splice into the VTEC solenoid wire coming from the ECU.. Make sure it's a "T" splice. Meaning, ECU----Splice----ECU------VTEC Solenoid. That way you're not affecting its series circuit and the Solenoid will see all 12volts.. After that, you can connect the wire, that you used to splice into the VTEC Solenoid wire, to whatever you want as long your connected in parallel to the ECU. In parallel is to be connected to a power source and then to ground. Like this:

Splice from ECU---Relay/Switch/Transistor/Zenor Diode/Whatever---ground.
This way you won't effect the voltage going to the VTEC Solenoid because in a parallel circuit, there's source voltage before each load.

But here's something to remember. If the load that you're using draws too much current than the ECU can handle, you're screwed.. So do this at your own risk.
