Default vtec 'stutters' - high compression ignition problem?

i have this ls vtec that im slowly building and its running 11.7:1 compression right now. i have a VAFC2 and the vtec is set at about 5600. When i gun it i can feel some hesitation once in awhile. I read that especially in high compression motors, ignition gets more important in the higher rpms. so im curious if it could be my stock ignition just isnt doing it. the only other thing is im running some kinnda haggard nology hotwires, they had a couple little chunks taken out of the insulation. ill probably upgrade to a msd sci unit and blaster coil either way.

its a chipped p28, not sure on much else besides that. i have another p28 that was chipped w/ chrome but the car was slower when i tried that ecu. i had magnacore wires that came with the car and i got these nologys for 20 bucks so i thought i would try them , switched back to the magnacore and it lost power no lie. but i still wouldnt doubt the nologys could be faulting.
