Icon6 Vtec sputter/ won't crossover HELP!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need help. My vtec wont engage. I have a gsr turbo. Motor ran fine was fully tuned. I did a head gasket, valve train, and blox tuner b cams. My car was on the dyno low lobe tuned fine. once they tried to tune high lobe, the car acted like it was hitting a rev limiter and would not go into vtec. It just cut out and sputtered like crazy! We changed the diz and vtec sylnd. Neither helped. timimg in dead on. oil level in good. map sensor is fine. We thought it was a wiring issue, we we engaged vtec maunally and it did the same thing. Has anyone ran into this before? I removed the valve cover and it didnt seem oil deprived anywhere. We forced air into the sylnd and pluged the hole inside the head, the rocker arms engaged and locked together. Oil pressure seems fine... dont have a guage though. Any ideas??

It could almost be anything. The AFR and/or timing could be getting thrown off when the vtec engages (which should have been obvious when on the dyno). The vtec lobes could possibly be causing the valves to not seal properly. Make sure the clearances are set for the new cams and not stock specs. You also might have lost a vtec pin when you removed the rocker arms.

Timing wzas fine, the cams I'm using now are just blox tuner B's so they really aren't that aggressive. compared to the stock gsr cams i originally tuned with. but yeah i did have a valve adj done and all that. I will pull the cams out and check the pins see if in fact i did lose one, I doubt it cause I didn't remove the assembly. when i did the valve train i just flipped them up. I'll try the stock cams and see what happens.

we tuned the car in non vtec and it tuned fine. no issues at all even in higher rpm. so when vtec crossed and freaked out we thought it was wiring or ignition problem. so we manually engaged vtec in the tune we had already done, bypassing the diz and ecu signal. it still freaked out. It must be mechanical.... if it was the springs or retainers it would have had issues on the non vtec lobe also. we tested the pins and they all seemed to lock. Must be the cams....?

So putting the stock cams back in didn't fix it?

Start double checking your mechanical work.

What turbo manifold is on the car?

I just put the stock cams back in last night, but did have a chance to have the chip messed with so i could try vtec. I think it will get back on the dyno today and see if that was the issue. it is a custom build log style manifold w/ 3" dp and full 3" exhaust. I looked at the head really close last night when i have thew cams out, and nothing looked out of place or out of the ordinary. There was no sign of oil deprivation....major scratch/scaring. I hope it gets on the dyno today and engage vtec to see if the cams where the issue... possible oil pressure problem when vtec engages... but there was no sagn of lubrication problems in the head, no smoke. new oil pump. plus the low lobe was already tuned and they were aggrsive on it so it would have created some problems already if it was oil deprivation...

Low oil pressure when the vtec's engaged points to the vtec oil seals in the head. If there isn't enough pressure then some pins may not engage or can wiggle back and forth between engaged and not. Make sure all of your o-rings and gaskets in the head are there and in good condition. Make sure the head is properly vented.

If you haven't yet, next time the rocker arms are out make sure the vtec pins are not stuck.

it could be that ur Solenoid is going bad, or not enough oil pressure

did you try raising the vtec point higher? upgraded cams + log manifold don't usually like to go together.

i believe that if the oil pressure is low it will pop when VTEC engages, could be wrong though. also if not said before you AIC valve could be bad. My Integra would putter when VTEC engaged and die when I let off the gas, all it was, was the wires in the AIC came out. So check the wires.

The IAC is good. As far as i know oil pressure is ok, there is no damage to the head. Everything is very clean and the o-rings and oil paths in the caps and head are clear. I'll check oil pressure at the head and see what it is doing.

They are just blox tuner b's. the mani i have i've seen cars make 500whp. its not a cast log. really these cams are small... Yeah i tried engaging vtec up to 7k and it didn't help. I tried it lower also. tryed adding timimg, and retarding, added fuel, took fuel out...

check to make sure the screen is clean inside the silenoid
make sure you have the right vtec silenoid(i had the same issue on a NA set up) because you might have the SOHC one.

Well I finally got it starightened out. It was the cams. Appariently Blox type B's will not work with a short ram turbo manifold. The exhaust lobe is too big for the manifold and actually spits exhaust back into the motor on vtec lobe. So for everyone with a short ram or log manilfold dont use blox type b cams. I swapped my stock gsr's back in and it's good to go.
