VTEC selenoid
ok here is the deal...I bought a b16 ef si off a friend. there was talk that vtec wasn't activating, but the car pulled hard to 8k. anyway, I was letting my friend drive my car today and wouldn't ya know it he got in an accident(not really his fault). So the car wouldn't start and I was checking the ecu codes, only to find it spitting code 15 and 21. 21 is the vtec selenoid...how do I go about fixing or getting a new selenoid? how much are they? thanks...it's been a long shitty day

Re: VTEC selenoid (Shea-bird)
you can remove it and see if the inner screen that flows the oil supply for the valve
is clogged. if the car had normal oil changes this screen should be clean, if not it could inhibit the operation of the solenoid. I would check that but first run power to it and see if it clicks. if your solenoid clicks and you still have no VTEC, you are having oil pressure issues. this causes the solenoid to operate erratically, throwing a code in some cases. I would check your oil level and be sure you have 4-4.25qt in it also. if there is no oil, you have no VTEC if there is oil, you may have a tired pump and or oil pressure sending unit

Re: VTEC selenoid (Shea-bird)
check you're VSS aswell, i had VSS trouble, and i got no engine code, check on tranny, back of cluster aswell
also, check the ohms of the solenoid, hook up 12v to it, etc, check if dirty, etc, like already stated.
