Default vtec question

would it be ok to hook up a button or switch to the vtec solinoid instead of the computer telling it when. what are the negitive sides of doing this? at low, high rpms?

you could do this, but why go through the hassle?

At too low rpms it will make ur car run rich as hell and it wont give you any performance........at higher rpms thats usually where its set.....but why not get a VAFC Controller and just set it?

u dont wan to use vtec like u would..say..NOS...just let the ecu do the job..plus when ur messing around on the street..its hard to activate the vtec at the right rpm..in short...DON'T DO IT!!

Actually on a stock ECU, you'd really **** it off and make it go into limp mode.

The ECU won't switch fuel maps until the specified RPM anyway so you will be running leaner fuel mix.
THe VTEC lobes actually make less power than the normal lobes under 5000 rpm.

In short, let the ECU do it and just get larger cams.

If it was worthwhile to do that, I think honda would have made it kick in at other times (which would be what you're trying to make it do). I would leave it as is until you get some cams then you can get a VAFC to adjust your vtec point to where it will get you more power (aftermarket cams make power at higher RPMs so up'ing the vtec point is worthwhile).

well it was just a thought, but it would be on a mugen ecu, but if it is already gonna expect vtec to be activated and its not it would be a loss oh well. thanks for the feedback
