vtec oil pressure!!!
i just got my car running and i notice that my vtec is not kickin...i have a 1st gen b16a...the wires are all wired up right...now my question is how can i check the oil pressure to make sure that it is high enough for vtec...should i let the car run for a min then check it....where should i look and what should i check to get my vtec working right....??
oh the front of the head... right in front of the vtec solenoid is a bolt (plug) with a 10mm head on it... its on the upper portion of the head... i forgot the exact thread size now... u need to get any pressure guage (for oil) with an adapter to screw in there... with the motor running (idleing) u should only see a couple psi (~5psi)... then run a wire from the battery positive to the wire on the solenoid. ull here a click... the oil pressure should jump up... i forgot the psi it should be at but if i remember correctly it should be around 60... someone correct me if im wrong... pretty much there should be a big jump in oil pressure

60 psi at idle? I don't think so.

ok so when i check my oil pressure..and it doesnt go up after i put a direct connection to the silonoid...what does that mean i should do...if the silonoid is good and its all wired up right and there is no pressure what should i do...new oil pump?...
the vtec oil pressure port should have no pressure untill the sol. is activated, then it should read 50+ psi.
so hold the engine anything higher than 3k rpms and you should read at least 50 psi.

you checked it? what pressure are you getting?

i know this sounds like a small thing, but do you have enough oil in your motor? i havent read anything that said you checked your oil so i dont know if you have.
its the simplest and first thing you shouldve checked.
