Default vtec kicks in, but doesn't pull!!

Okay, I got a b16a and everything was working fine, and I let the car sit for about 2 days, and now I get on it, and it runs fine throughout the rpm's, then when vtec kicks in its Veryyyyyy loud, but doesn't pull at all. And before it pulled decently, and now it doesn't at all, just makes noice, and its ******* loud!!

Its a stock b16 with a chipped p72.. I checked the oil level and its riggght above the bottom dot on the stick.

Any ideas?

Annnd that means absolutly nothing. Let me guess, you got a gsr.. In a heavy *** DA? Or a xsi motor which is still a b16.

I asked a question, didn't want a smart *** comment.

wow easy buddy. first your question was a bit vague

and you asked for ideas and i gave mine, so heres another. Why don't you buy a service manual and test the VTEC system to see if it functioning properly

BTW i don't have either of those motors in my heavy *** DB2!

Yea, like a week ago my cat started ratteling, I think its broke inside the cat.. I got underneath the car and made sure nothing was touching the heatsheild and nothing is. I just filled it up with plenty of oil, and its still doing it. Its verry loud vtec, but doesn't pull at all, just feels like vtec doesn't work at all, even tho its making tons of nice noise.

I'm lost and mad.. its abrand new cat too!! Could this be the problem? It runs fine under vtec tho!!!

Ahhhh!!

Yep, I have a B16 as well and vtec is loud as hell but it doesn't throw me back into the seat or nothing.
I also have a gsr and it is quieter because of my exhaust setup on the two but it doesn't throw me into the seat either.

Welcome to being used to your car and starting to realize the effect of NO Torque.

Not being a dick just stating what most others will too. If you can hear it, then it probably works the same.

Datalog it and use a wideband then you will see what map your on and if the A/F ratios are normal.

my F22b1 2.2l SOHC threw me back into my seat in my 95 accord more than my friends b16 does in his CRX. so, its just a b16 thing i guess.

But honestly dude i think since u said u had it onyl 2 days or what not, that ur imagination isnt working as hard anymore because ur used to driving the car now. when u first got it u were probably like YEAH VTEC and now its like "uhhhh vtec" lol. Not being a smart *** but thats probably it.

when you say it dosent "pull", do you mean it dosent suddenly kick you in your ***? or dose the car fall on its face/cut out? i have owned to b16 powered eg's, and vtec never really "kicks" hard. the car just steadily increses in power. i have to agree with the others, you probably just got used to the awsome b16.lol

not sure if this will help but the same thing happened to my friends car. one day vtec just sounds alot louder than normal but didnt feel the pull. we found out that his resonator was clogged and his vtec solenoid was bad. changed both out and it was back to normal

Man this is no joke, the same thing happen to me just today. When my itr vtec kicked in no pull like how it was the other day. Just change oil this past week. Found out the oil was low already. Might be a leak somewhere.

one thing you need to understand is... IF VTEC is kicking in, you should feel the power. if the high-cam isnt switching over it will start losing power and getting loud but it WONT sound like a VTEC switch over

maybe your just getting used to VTEC, after awhile of owning my ITR swaped DB8 I started thinking it was getting slower, but then I gapped a WRX on the freeway??

either its all in your head or VTEC is not switching over

yes vtec is cool and all but if your in 3rd/4th/5th gear you wont feel it pull as hard as when it switches over in 1st and 2nd.. its just a 7-15Whp jump that you wont feel as much in the higher gears, just mostly sound.. vtec is a bigger cam lobe switching over, not a supra hitting boost nor a 75 shot of nitrous or a horse kicking you in the ***.. relax its all in your head
