Default vtec issues. please read.

Has there ever been weird temperamental issues with vtec on single cams, or on the d15b in general? Like I have heard that your motor has to actually be at a optimal running temp for it to engage and so on. Is this true? And how temperamental are vtec solenoids? Should you clean them often to make sure they are not gunked up?

One other thing I was wondering. The solenoid I have is off the y8, and I just recently bought new gaskets for it. The top smaller gasket I took out had a filter on it, and the new one didn't. It was from Honda, so its an OEM part, but would that cause the solenoid to not work properly?

Yes the car should be at normal operating temp for vtec to engage properly.
