Default Vtec hooked up properly, but NOT working!?

I can't seem to find why my vtec isn't working. The wires to the ecu are stiill tight in the ecu pins as b4 the swap, all the switches are hooked up properly as b4 the swap, and oil is at 2nd mark on the dipstick. It's a fresh rebuild LS/VTEC. The VTEC silinoid is the only thing that I changed and I don't have the old silinoid. Would the check engine light com on if the vtec silinoid isn't working? There is no check engine light on at this point. I have opened up the silinoid b4 but im not sure what would be a cause... Would the LS/VTEC head work be a factor (dowel pin stuff)? GSR oil pump by the way.

thanks
