Default VTEC and Coolant Temp

VTEC engagement depends on a certain coolant temperature right???
Well Im having a problem. I drive normal until my car warms up, then on the interstate I'll gun in and hit VTEC. I'll be going relatively fast, and my coolant temp will drop back to the furthest left bar. Then I will drop out of VTEC until my car warms up again. Has anyone had this problem? How can I make my car run warmer? Any thoughts?? Thanks

the temp sensor that the ecu reads is usually in operating range before the needle on the cluster even moves off cold.

When i start my car, the needle is below the cold. And just a few months ago I replaced the temp sensor. I added a quart of oil last weekend, so its full. Full gas tank. Good gas mileage. And yeah, the temp needle goes down after a hard run. It is like 40 degrees, and 40 degrees at 90MPH is probably really cold.
The only thing I can think of is currently there is more water than coolant in my car. Should I add coolant to bring the ratio up?

ok a buddy of mine says his GSR does the same thing. He decided to just put in a 190 degree or so thermostat.
It sucks not having VTEC y0!

try blocking some of the cooling fins on your radiator with duct tape. Just do one stripe at a time and see where it puts the needle

Sounds like no thermostat or stuck open thermostat. I think you need coolant temp. of 100 degrees F. or above for the ECU to engage VTEC.

i like the tape idea, because I am ghetto fabulous
yes I do have a thermostat, I do have 90,600 miles on the car. Im getting my timing belt and water pump done pretty soon, maybe I should have them throw in a new thermostat and pcv valve.

VTEC engagement takes place at 80 degrees or higher.
