Default VTEC burn oil????

sup, my car isn't performing as well as it should be. im getting a compression and leakdown test sometime this weekend. i vtec it maybe once a day. is it true vtec burns oil????? because my car does burn oil, so i refill a half a quart every once in a while. if vtec does not burn oil, then it might be piston rings. ill post results of the compression test as soonas i get it done. but the question, does vtec burn oil? its redlined to maybe 7900.

I have that same problem...I noticed in my rearview mirror that i was blowin some blue smoke only over 5500rpm on a d16z6 motor...so i cleaned the entire engine super duper well so i could see if the blue smoke was coming from a gasket leak or something of that sort or if it was blowin blue out the exaust...well motor is still spic n'span clean...so i now know the blue smoke is coming from my exaust...don't know if it's my rings or what but, yeah if someone could help us out that would be great!!!!

Your engine should not BURN any oil under VTEC. The problem might be your valve seals, oil control rings, clogged pcv system.

mobil 1 5w30.... i got a compression test, not sure how to set this up, i dont have a helms manual... 3 cylinders ran at 155...but the last cylinder on the passengers side ran a 125. all these test were after 3-4 ignition clicks. we wanted to know if it was a piston ring so we sprayed some wd40 down the 125 bad cylinder...and did a compression test..it went up to 155! i know my piston rings are a bit worn out, but not bad enough to bring down this much power. so i hav ea problem somewhere, my motor does burn oil. i always add oil maybe once a month, like half a quart a month, every month takes me about 1200 miles.
so what do you think might be the problem? thanks

Its probably time for a rebuild. Burning oil can result in a serious loss of horsepower due to insufficient ring seal. Either deal with adding oil every 1200 miles or replace your rings and go .5mm over with a good hone. Replace valve seals and pcv valve and there you got it. A non smoking, non oil burning, stronger performing engine.

For now, stop using M1 5w-30, it is a very THIN 30 weight, and it actually shears down to that of a 20 weight oil. If you want to stick with M1 oil, Use the M1 0-40..It'll help slow down oil consumption.

Quick question
is 10w-30 thicker than 5w-30 or vice versa?

They're both 30 weight oils, 5w-30 just has a lower pour point.

From my expierence, M1 oil likes shear down.. I used to burn a lot when I was running it. My car runs much better on the German Castrol 0w-30.

Lower pour point means the 5w-30 has more viscosity ?
