Default how do you test vtec?

how can u tell if the vtec kicks in or not. i just swapped a b16a into my hb and it is ridiculously slow. slower than the sohc i swapped out. well anyways, i'm have a chipped p28 and a vafc. no matter where i set the vtec point i don't feel a pull or here the motor scream. is it the solenoid? the vafc shows the vtec goin on but is there a way i can test if it is working mechanically?

the motor is a b16a from a 90 in japan. i cut the connector and crimped the wire straight to the soleniod cause connectors didn't match up. is there any way i could check if the soleniod is functioning right?

are you sure its hooked up to the correct wire if the connectors didnt plug up?

you could try unplugging (or un wiring in your case) the solenoid and drive your car and see if you notice a loss in power. this is how i tested mine when i thought it wasnt working but it turns out it was working becuase it was really slow with it unplugged.

good luck

yeah i'm pretty sure it's the right wire it's the green/white wire the single wire that comes from the solenoid. but i'll try to disconnect it and see wat happens.

i would check continuity of the wire first to see that there are no breaks in it... If you don't find anything the run a voltmeter to it then rev your car up and see if you get 12vdc anywhere, with your VAFC your VTM is overridden so you don't have to worry about it.. If all else fails run a 12 volt source directly to the VTEC solenoid... At idle if the solenoid is good the motor will bog.. Good Luck
