but if they arent and the vtec sol. is hooked up straight to a 12 volt source. does it matter about the other things still for it to work? ex:if i had no vss but i still hard wired vtec to a 12v volt source will it still work (at the right rpm range of course)? </TD></TR></TABLE>

If you have no ecu, the car won't run, so don't even worry about vtec.

If you have a non-vtec ecu and you're getting a vtec ecu, just don't use vtec. Life will suck, but you'll appreciate it that much more when you have it.

I have heard that you can wire VTEC to a 12v power source that's always on when your car's on. Or, you can use a VTEC controller...not sure about either of the two, but I would listen to drdisco69. VTEC was VERY rewarding once I had it. It may be getting me in to trouble though.

You don't want vtec on all the time, trust me. I accidently set mine to 1800rpm one day, and that was one pissed off engine. Vtec at idle will probably stall the car.

I ran vtec at idle on my mini-me once(by accident) and it sounded like it had a nasty *** cam in it.. It also didnt have any power until the rpms started to get up there..

Then I'll add to my statement by saying that a DUAL cam will probably stall.

Probably.. But dont they have those vtec killer rockers that eliminate vtec or something like that.. They might need a special cam or maybe special tuning and a higher idle to function properly..

Yeah, for a full race deal like that, you can let it idle at like 2000rpm and not care.

Hell, F1 motors idle at 9000 rpm...

Ferrari was revving to 18,900 this past year, Honda was at around 18,600 I think.

Image a motorcycle revving to 12k+ on the freeway, then imagine it even higher-pitched by 6k rpms..

Stock GSXR 600 RR does 16,000 this year, I believe. 12,000 is old school.

MY guess was that he meant to hook it up to the high beam headlight switch. So when you wanted Vtec to kick it you would turn on ur high beams. Just a wild guess.

Mmmm... So you'd have to flip your lights on and off every time you shift during acceleration... Sounds like a good plan to me.
