It'll be in the transmission, near the output shaft.

An intermediate reading could be anything, Obviously, check the obviousness. Looseness, frayed harness, **** like that. If everything appears to be good at first glance you can either throw parts at it or have it tested.

Would changing the cluster help? And so your saying the vss is inside the tranny? So i would have to pull the tranny to get to it right?

The VSS is technically inside the transmission but the transmission doesn't have to be removed in order the change it.

It's should be pretty easy to find. It's next to the output shaft and has a wire harness connected to it.

When i looked the part up it had a gear on the end of it. Does this mean i will have to line up the gear slpines on the new part to the ones inside the tranny? I found where tge vss is i just dont know how hard it will be to replace.

It's easy to replace. The gear will have to be aligned but it's not hard.
