Default VSS I think

Okay so I took a 4 hour trip today,
At first my speedo is jumping 40-80-20-0-120 etc...

then about 2 hours into the drive it started to
"choke" out like say im doing 80mph it felt like I let off the gas
even tho im flooring it the car wouldnt go i had to down shift to 4th for it
to "un-choke" itself then shift to 5th drive awhile then it start to do it again.

So I pull over and unplug the vss and the problem went away also vtec went away so I plug it back in and no vtec and the problem started again,
I unplug it again and left it unplug and the rest of the drive it happen once
unplugged?

so is the vss bad or should I change like the cap/rotor/plug/wires and see if that helps?

Cliff:
96 hatch
B16a2 swap
itr ecu
5th gear
jumpy speedo
anything over 4500 rpm car chokes it self
unplug vss loose vtec drive normal

Please any input will be nice

Im about to go out side and clean the vss out

it sounds like a bad VSS. Buy a new one at autozone to see if it helps...

check connection first. black is ground, black/yellow is 12v and the other which is like blue maybe blue/white is output so 1-5v. just had this problem and it was the connector that plugged onto the vss for me. 12v pin was broken off on my connector.
