ok got the junk motor running but it rained to day so no autox. but here
is the deal it has a 95 leakdown and it smokes like hell under load. the
head came off of a blown motor that didnt get a oil change for more than a
couple of miles and broke a rod. i am thinking that the valve stems seals are
leaking or cracked.

my ? is can they be changed without head removal or do i need to take it
(the head) off?

its the piston rings, usually you can tell its valves seals on the exhaust side during deceleration. l

 

well when you did the leakdown did you listen to the exhaust/intake/dip stick HOLE/ to listen for a leak? that can tell you if you where you are having your problem.

 

i'm pretty sure you need to pull the head.... at least on a VR-4 you do, so i'm assuming it's the same on a Honda.
