Valve Springs
Im putting my valve springs back into my 95 GSR head. My question is, does it matter which way the exhaust valve springs go in? I know the intake valve springs are close together on one end and far apart on the other, but I can't really tell if the exhaust springs are the same way.
inner springs are non progressive and it doesn't matter which way you install them, outer springs are progressive and one end of the spring has the coils closser together. I think the end with the coils close to eachother should be on the bottom but I'm not sure. My portflow inners were not progressive I'm pretty sure the stock ones are also but check to make sure.
When I swaped my valve springs I put the painted side up but honestly I didnt think it matters because the coils did not look progressive. They looked exactly the same if i flipped them upside down. Besides, I cant imagine why it would matter anyway since the retainers and seats are totally flat. Its not like suspension springs. They just push out. It shouldnt matter which way they go in. Maybe Im totally off.
