Default Valve spring removal problems

One thing i learned while taking apart the head i am rebuilding is to not ever use the cheap Craftsman valve spring compressor.
While attempting to remove an exhaust spring the compressor slipped, scoring one of the cam journals.
my question is, could that be repaired? the journal is in good shape, but it has a nick on the edge, where the dowl is, protruding out. if i were to replace the cam, the nick would interfere with the normal cam operation.
i will post pictures later when i get home.

My friend uses a craftsman bolt socket, puts the bolt end on top of the retainer and hammers the socket and the keepers flies out. A much quicker way, just becarefully.

yeah.. I've heard of people doing that, I sure wouldn't though.

You're supposed to hold the spring compressor steady when doing this (this is fact), and only remove your hand when taking the keepers off..
