Default valve lapping

after searching and coming up with only 4 threads on valve lapping in the archive i would like someone here who actually does honda heads for a living to explain the correct process for sealing a valve to the valve seat properly...

get a valve lapping tool. and some dual grit sompund.
follow instructions on the back. basically put the heavier grit on, lap it some, and finish up with lighter grit.

really easy.

so ive read...would it help in anyway to say go to a 1000grit for the final lapping of the valve?
basicly just looking for any tips/tricks if there is any

theres 2 grits in the jars you buy, use the heavy then the light. thats all. no tricks.

what grit you recomend...autozone has 110/220 and pepboys has 120/240 and i can also order pretty much anything around there up to 1200grit

I liked the stuff I got at AutoZone. It had a grit that broke down as the valve was lapped in. So it started out super coarse and broke down into polish by the time the valve was finished. No need for multiple grits.

true but usually someone who has been doing heads for 20 years will have a preference for some reason...i just like lookin at all angles before i jump in

enzo...i think your talkin about the permatex stuff in the tube...ive heard it works well...guess ill have to try different ways over the years

Yup, it's permatex. The only issue with it is that for moderate lapping, you have to keep aplying it because it breaks down into polish before you've lapped enough to get a good seal.
