valve clearance
So I was thinking about getting some JUN 3 cams for my GSR, and I read that on a stock motor you can only do like +-1 degree of timing with them due to clearance issues. What can be done to increase clearance, and more importantly how much does it cost?

Jun's should be ok as is installed at 0 degrees. The cheapest way to increase your clearance is to install a thicker head gasket but then you lose some of your compression ratio. I believe you can retard the intake and advance the exhaust without hurting your clearances. Be careful going the opposite direction.
Yeah but to get the most out of the cams I'd have to tune them, right?
And you can apparently only tune a little on stock clearance..
I imagine I'll need to tune more than 1 degree, could be wrong though
Someone mentioned milling the head in another thread. What's that and how much does it usually cost?

The Jun Cams really don't have much of a clearance issue when installed correctly. I just recommend that if you do decide to get the cams, get their valve springs and retainers. A lot of people decide on getting other things cheaply done, which results in the car not performing up to par. The spring ratings are different and you should use what Jun uses to test their cams with. Spring pressure is also an important profile for the cams (not too stiff and not less of a spring pressure rating), the height of the springs for the duration is set for the cams, resulting in optimal performance for the setup you are going with. Also, the Jun cams are designed for DURATION, not as being HUGE cams like their competitor (Toda). Therefore, the cams don't necessarily require as much micotuning because their are not bigger than Toda cams, they are cams with duration, lift, and powerful cams in the higher rpm ranges.

Thanks a lot guys, the board is great as usual.
And rainforest that's a good idea, I will see if I can contact JUN.
I'm surprised no one who uses the cams has responded yet..
