Default V8 Ford Focus!!!!!!!

OMG I was reading in this magazine yesterday (I think it was HCI or something like that) that there is a bolt on engine mount kit so you can put a V8 in a focus.

I was reading it a Borders and just skimmed through. Anyone else see this article????

Yes, they aren't street legal and cost around 5,000.

This is very old news BTW

If you want to know more about the kit go to http://www.kugelkomponents.com
I had lunch with Jerry Kugel today. He is currently doing a focus with the 4.6 modular dohc ford motor. Looks good and I don't even like Fords.

Do you know how fast (1/4 mile) that focus on the site runs? The one with the fuel injected Cobra engine.

The kit and car is street legal. Jerry is the designer of the peice and owns and drives his focus with a V8 in it. Earl is a lucky man because he got to go for a ride in it when I was not there....Mike

ps...looks stock until u fire that thing up. Then you hear the crackle of a V8...good stuff.

Cobra engine set-up is the first being built. It will be at SEMA (maybe in the Grant Steering Wheel booth or with Ford). The car may or may not be drivable by the time of the show but it will be there.
Jerry said that one customer told him that in a 1/8 mile pass the car ran 90mph. Not sure on this however, sounds too fast.

Ughhhh. You have got to be kidding (although I know you arn't because I looked at the site) The domestic guys just cant get over their old tech pushrod engines.

WHY!!??? for ***** sake? The focus is an efficient, well put together car as it is (even if I don't like the way it looks). shoehorning a V8 into is is a pointless exercise. Yeah, if you want to make a dragster, Duh, but I have far more respect for people who make 4 CYLINDER, FRONT WHEEL DRIVE cars go fast down the 1/4 mile. That requires some REAL technology.

Just my ranting 2 cents

Mike

Why do Civic owners swap engines? More power. Don't be all negative just because someone took the most aftermarket supported V8 and shoved it into a lightweight vehicle.

That is what every performance geek out there does. Lighter car and bigger engine.

If I could fit a "PUSHROD" in my Civic I would do it today!

My original post says I don't even like Fords. I'm just answering a guys post and propping a friend that I wish I had 20% of his talent.

BTW, this is a factory looking installation, not a race car look. You would swear it is OEM and won best engineered product at SEMA last year

It's also rwd, no?

If so then its a pretty good engineering feat (read: really f*cking cool!).

No me gusta ford either. But if you have an open mind at all this is one cool car.

92 sleeper r, your an idiot, that has to be one of the stupidest things ive ever read. you know what it takes to get a focus engine to get 320 hp ? and those 5.0's are quite easy to get 400 hp out of. you know what it takes? i big effing turbo, whole lotta technololgy idiot, all it does is push more air into the motor, REAL technology? how about a hemi engine, ever hear of one of those? ehhh if you wana make a dragster, wtf do you think 75% of the poeple do on here? street race/ drag race at the track, there are alot of auto crossers, but who doesnt need to go faster if your tryin to make your car perform better than other cars? powerful engine+light car=FAST, it will still handle just as well as anything you have anyway, see all the extra frame and steering support? btw, i do like your cars, but i definitly dont agree with your statement, i get tired of seeing ever civic or crx get a b16 waste of moeny stuck in them, the only way they are going anywere is a turbo/sc..

But it is the fact that you are using a pushrod V8 that makes the car not street legal. Here in California, the motor must be the same year or newer than the car it is going into. And since the old 5.0 has been out of production for quite some time, you cannot get an old enough Focus. But I guess I must commend them for deciding to work on a 4.6 kit. What better way to move away from archaic, pushrod engines? And how about a 5.4 liter Cobra R motor? I am sure nobody on this planet would ever miss pushrods if you could get that motor into a Focus!

Yes it is rwd. The hard part of the conversion was how to mount a rearend in the focus and stilll make it look factory.

On push rod engines...this is a Calif smog rule and would not apply across the USA.

Cool, that's what I thought. Anyone have any pics of the underside of it? I'd like to see how they ran the tunnel for the tranny.

I saw this car at MIR last summer and let me say: THIS CAR IS BADASS. It only has a 302 (Correct me if I'm wrong) but it's quite amusing to watch the nose of the car want to lift up when driven hard. It's also very amusing to watch the plasticy key turn over on the plastically dashboard only to hear the roar of a v8.

You can call that "bolt-in" if you want but tearing the car down completely to "bolt it in" kind of defeats the purpose. Interesting, but not practical for the average Focus owner. An integra or prelude engine swap is a very practical idea which can be performed quite painfully. This on the other hand just isn't something that can be done by the average Focus owner.

$7020 for all listed parts not including the engine. Riiiiiiight.
