Default FI on a D16Y7?

106 ponies aren't doing it for me. I guess my main goal is to SAFELY squeeze the most out of my engine since it is a daily driver. It has roughly 60K miles on it. Is there a bolt-on kit to turbocharge the D16Y7? I know JR has a supercharger kit but from what I hear, it doesn't produce much. I really want to keep my engine. I don't mind reinforcing things if it comes down to it. I'm not a racer or look for races. Just good ol' self gratification!!

Why would you want to turbocharge a 1590cc soch 16 valve non vtec motor with a worthless tranny?

Check out my page...I need to update it badly .. especially since I have the turbo on now...

I converted my motor to VTEC but I bet it's only good for an extra 20 horses (maybe less!).

The y7 short block is very similar to the z6 short block. As far as i know the y7 and y8 are identical other then the y8 has a knock sensor.

I blew up my last engine in my 93 civic hatch. I replaced it with a y7 short block, z6 head, my 93 tranny, and some other misc parts. It seems, so far, to work fine. I am running right now 9psi of boost with fuel from 450cc injectors. It runs very strong and burns lots of rubber in 1st and 2nd gear.

Never the less the y7 head sucks, the y7 intake manifold is even worse. The tranny is a total lose...but swap on a y8 head (or z6) and get a new tranny its a fine engine.

Thanks guys. I guess that won't work out as I planned. So I need a Y8 head and new tranny. When you say tranny, do you mean the whole thing or just an upgraded clutch, etc.. How much are the heads running?

by tranny we mean the whole tranny. The y7 tranny has really tall gears. You can do like 110 in 3rd! Thats a little silly. Swapping an EX tranny will help tons. With a turbo you are going to need a new clutch, thats a must.

An EX head will cost like $250 maybe, but you are goign to need a new ecu or some way to control vtec. If you wanna do the whole convertion you are going to need the ex intake manifold, ecu, and head. You will also need a knock sensor so the y8 ecu will be happy. Expect to pay $500 or more. Might not be worth it.

I have no KS .. doesn't go to limp so it's fine. There's several other sensors you can't add anyway so no biggie. It will cost a bit, if I were you I'd get an EX intake and that's it. Block off the IACV port on the new manifold and modify your stock TB to work with it. Slap the turbo on, and see where you want to go from there.
