crank no start
My car was running great. Changed the wp, tb, tensioner, and I was using it for some time just fine. Then it got to the point it would crank longer to start and it idled rough for a few seconds. It drove fine after. Now it doesn't start at all.
I've check the fuel pressure: 42 psi
ect reads 104* with outside temp at 90*
no codes
i pulled #4 and #2 spark plug and it was kinda wet and black and smelled like gas.
what would you check next?
2002 civic lx manual. All Stock

Re: crank no start
Check spark, use an HEI spark tester to test the spark, [$10 or less at any auto parts store].
Just guessing but I think your coil is on the way west.
MM&Y of car along with trim level and any mods would help. 94

Replace the plugs, test the spark and then I'd start by replacing the CKP sensor. Make sure you have all the accessories tight or it will make the limp mode activate on those D17 cars as they are very sensitive to crank vibration.

Re: crank no start
I put everything back together minus the crank pulley and belts for alternator and AC and it runs. At first it idled rough, then evened out after a minute or so.
Even after running for a minute or so, I'll turn it off to turn it back on, yet I gotta crank it like 3 or 4 seconds. I would assume after turning on the first time there would be enough fuel to start right away the next time around.
i haven't changed spark plugs or ckp yet.

Re: crank no start
Don't run it without the crank pulley, that's asking for problems. Mine was taking a few cranks to start(among other issues) I swapped in a new distributor and it fired immediately. The sensors in the dist start to go bad and create issues. You can pick up a new Dist with new ignitor/coil/cap/rotor for $75 on amazon. If nothing else it should pretty much rule out any issues on the spark side.

Re: crank no start
prodjay10 have you tested the spark yet?
Plugs "wet" with gas indicates weak or no spark, test the plugs that you pulled for spark, don't forget use an HEI spark tester, a spark plug or screw driver is not good enough, the spark on a spark plug not under pressure sparks differently then one in a combustion chamber and a screw drive can damage the coil, [dead short] . 94

Re: crank no start
My car started acting up again. At first take a long time cranking to start. Now it won't start. I replaced the coil packs since I have some laying around. It still doesn't start. All coils have spark. Only tested with spark plug.

Re: crank no start
This morning I was able to get my car to start by squirting starter fluid in the intake. That's how I've been using it. If it doesn't start, I use starter fluid.

Re: crank no start
So I had been using starter fluid to start my car and decided to use b12 Chemtool in the gas tank. I waited till it was almost on E and emptied the whole can in the tank. After the first time running it with the chemtool, my car would start without starter fluid. I've since refilled the tank and is still starting without starter fluid.
Should i pull the injectors and have them professionally cleaned? It starts without starter fluid but still not as quickly as my other civic.
