I have another idea. When you want to cool the inside of the car, turn the A/C on. When it's cold enough, turn it off. You remove just enough heat to make the car comfortable. If you don't want to lose 2mpg, crack a window, turn up the blower motor, and suck it up.

I don't even know if the A/C system would work well with the compressor spinning slower since it's designed to work with specific pressures and a specific flow rate. I'd like to see the math.

Nuff said.

Obviously the guy who wrote that article never heard of variable displacement compressors. I know they exist, cause the shitty Kias I work on for a living have them.
