it's a little more than just that..

Redragon..
To begin with are you asking aboout Hydro B16A's or the Cable type? cuz US Honda never released the cable type B16A in the states....ever. We only saw the beginning of B-series Vtec engines in the 1992 Integra GSR (B17) which did have some parts from a cable type B16A, but was not 1.6L. Now, if you're asking in regards to only the hyrdo-type B16A's aka 92+ B16A's then here's what the differences are:

1. ecu
the JDM 92+ ECU is the small type and is probably programmed with a slightly bit more aggressive fuel/timing maps than the US version found in the DOHC DELSOL.

2. transmission.
The JDM 92+ B16A Hydro tranny has an optional LSD, unlike the US version which doesn't have that option. The gear ratios are exactly the same, although, I've found that the US 92-95 B16A tranny has a tighter 1st gear....but soooooooo what!

3. throttlebody.
JDM VS. US B16A throttlebodies are the same in diameter, but what differs is the MAP sensor. the JDM version doesn't have a MAP sensor on the TOP of the TB like a US B16A would have. that's it...nothing more.

4. Pistons.
92+ JDM B16A's have a 'P30' piston which puts out 10.4 compression ratio. ALL US B16A's have a 'PR3' piston which is 10.2 compression ratio. Why we don't get the P30 piston still mystifies me, but I'm sure it has to do with some bullshit revolving around politics.

The valvetrain is exactly the same, oil spray bars are billet aluminum design, valve springs, valves, cams, all the same between US and JDM versions of the 92+ B16A.

.....that's about it. So, the only real big difference between a US and JDM 92+ B16A engine is the JDM LSD tranny and the P30 pistons.

Katman,
Thanks for the reply.I haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyone.I printed out your response so I can refer back to it later.I'm trying to learn as much as I can about these engines.I have a 2000 Civic Si and was curious as to the differences between the engines produced here as to Japan.I want to build my Si to J-spec and was coming up short on info....
Thanks again for the help.

coo..
well all you really have to do to match a JDM B16A, is basically swap your pistons out and for some P30 pistons and get a hold of a Y21 or S4C LSD tranny..

I have also heard rumors that the cams are different as well. The USDM cams are not as good as the SIRII cams. But they are better than the SIRI cams.

well as far as 89-91 vs. 92+ B16A cams yes.... the 92+ have a better profile. But as far as JDM vs. US 92+ B16A cams they are the same.

yes, same mounting. You'll have to reuse your civic's 'bridge' mount on the timing belt side though.

uhh im confused a little with what you're asking. If I'm reading you right, you own a 96-98/OBD2 civic or integra right? if so, then yes, its best to get an 96+/OBD2 B-series distributor and if you don't want to wire your car, get a hold of a 96-98 EX coupe engine harness if you own a 96-98 civic or a 96-98 GSR engine harness if you own an integra. You'll still have to wire up vtec from the ECU to-shock tower if you own an integra though. You should already have a 4-wire 02 if own an integra also.
