Upgrade or downgrade? VX internals.
I came across a post somewhere on here that suggested VX pistons for a boosted d16y8/z6. The reasoning was that the pistons are nice and flat, and the VX rods are also longer? Just wondering if there is any merit to this, or would the VX internals just be weaker than the d16's overall?
its not worth the trouble.
1) the block on the z6 is slightly taller then the z1/b7
2)rods and pistons are identical to the JDM d15b (sohc vtec) (as well as z1/VX), its got nice rod to stroke ratio 1.62:1 vs 1.6l d-series which have 1.52:1,
3) beefier rods then d15bs but not as beefy or strong as d16z6/y8.
for low boost z6/y8 are excellent motors up to 200-225whp. if you're going to be making more then that then invest in some crower eco rods which are much cheaper in the long run. otherwise leave it stock and be happy
I had the JDM d15b sohc vtec which is VX bottom end + z6 head = check my sig for project car. it wasn't bad but I rather have z6 (and thats what I got this time ZC sohc vtec)

thanks for the advice eg6ajk.
What about the pistons though, are they weaker as well?
Also, does Crower, etc. make rods/pistons for d15's? If so, could that get the best of both worlds in a d16, better R/S ratio and beefier internals?
Just looking for some budget options, my current financial situation may change my B-series dreams into DIY boosted d16.

pistons are lighter but not stronger at least from the look of them. since the rod got increased from 134mm to 137mm.
crower &/or JE has rods for the d15b (the weakest link are rods on the d15b's) when doing turbos
not sure if you looked into this yet:

Thanks, Ive actually read over that board in the past. I tried searching there on the topic, but found nothing. Thought Id give H-T a shot.
By the way, my intentions were not to work with a d15b, but a d16 (I dont know if I was entirely clear in my second post. I just was wondering if OEM or aftermarket d15 rods/pistons would be beneficial in any way for boosting.
*side note: another reason this idea caught my eye, upon searching the H-T archives, I found a post by mista bone very eager to get his hands on some VX rods/pistons. Ive been around the boards long enough to know his results with D series engines. I still wonder why he wanted them.
