up and down idle
hey guys i need help!!!! i replaced my iac valve and checked for vacuum leaks and there were none but the idle is still going up and down between 1500 and 2300. i need some help does anyone think it could be the map sensor?
the iacvalve is brand new and a new map sensor. but i cleaned the valve under the throtle body and unhooked the battery terminals and reconected them and she ran up and down but after a few minutes she idled down and started to sound regular again.
hey i had the same problem with my 94 civic.. bugged the hell out of me and was kind of embarrassing it took me forever to find the problem... behind the intake manifold you will find a plate with two 8mm bolts(looks round almost oval with 2 flaps 1 for each bolt) remove the plate and you'll find a round little wheel dont know what its called but turn it until it tightens up cover up and bold it down and start the car.. hopefully this helps you.. let me know if this helps.
okay i just did that and it ran good but i just warmed it up about 30min prior so ill see how it is in the morning when it really isnt so warm. but thanks guys for the info and help this is my ride to work but i also love this car so i dontwant to run it into the ground. so i apreciate all the help let you know how she runs in the morning.
If that doesn't solve ur issue you could have a bad intake manifold gasket. You can trouble shoot it by spraying some carb cleaner where ur IM meets the block and if ur idle drops you have a leaky IM gasket.

make sure you car isnt throwing any check light this up and down thing is caused by TPS make sure the tps is working fine and is right between 0 volts at idle and 4.5-5volts at wot(full throttle)

take off your intake off the throttle body, there should be 2 holes, when the car is running cover the bottom hole and see if it stops
if it ooes do what i do, unbolt the 3 tens under the throttle body just enough to get a little gap, get a nice peice of cardboard and block that **** off then bolt it back up tight
i almost guarantee thats your problem
my friends car did the same **** like 3 times in one month and i blocked that **** off with some cardboard maybe ghetto but it always works

instead of worrying about that damn screw unbolt the 3 tens and put some cardboard in that bitch and call it a day and never have to worry about it again... its not needed, you only need the IACV to keep the car idling
