unknown sensor
I spun a bearing in my 97 civic ex D16Y8 motor and the only motor I could find and afford was a pretty decent D16Y6 out of a 95 civic.
My problem is there is a sensor of some sort that is behind the main pulley on the crank shaft that sits on the block right next to the bottom gear on the end of the crank shaft that drives the timing belt. I have no idea what this sensor is or what it does and it does not exist on the D16Y6. Anyone that can tell me what this is and what it does and if it is going to impede my swap would be greatle appreciated.

Crank fluctuation sensor.....only on 96-00 engines.
EDIT: Mine has been bad for about 10,000 miles now.

Nope. If you run your stock ECU it will throw a code.
You are also going to have to deal with emissions. The chasis you have is OBDII and you are swapping in an older OBDI which is smog illegal in a lot of states.
