Default type R IM on GSR

i have a 95' GSR.
will a type R intake manifold fit my GSR? i hear they fit all B series motors, and if so, will i notice any type of gains over stock?

thanks

nope wont fit. you'll have to get the skunk2 unit. same as ITR but for GSR head.

yea, i heard they fit as well with alittle modification. I think you have to cut part of it. I wouldnt bother though, just get a skunk2

You have to add/weld aluminum. Thats how it was done before the Skunk manifold.

well, i dont think i would spend $300 for a skunk to just yet.
i was curious because i say a couple type R ones on ebay going for like $100 used.
and it said it would fit all B series engines. but then again, i dont really trust ebay, which is why i asked here

just out of personal curiousity... would a type R IM (fabricated for fitment) make less, more, same power as a skunk 2 on a GSR?
and do intake manifolds do all that much?

It won't fit all B-series engines. The bolt holes don't match up on the B18C1 and B18C5 heads.

An intake manifold, assuming it's an appropriate choice for the amount of power you want to make, is going to be a decent investment. It's going to take some tuning though, because you need to keep in mind that the Skunk2 eliminates the secondary-intake function that is stock on the GS-R.

Get a used skunk2, much cheaper than $300

Two things, one I got my skunk2 brand new w/ ship for $265. The skunk2 should make more power than the type R. And Two, you don't need tuning for it to work, you may lose a little on bottom though. But when getting into parts like this you should be tuning your engine to realize the most power when adding them regardless of which manifold you use. You will lose a few pounds too, the gsr weighs more a good 25% more than the skunk2.(estimated)

so a used or even new skunk2 IM, would create a noticable gain. i figured i might get around 8whp.. would that be accurate?

anything i should look for (problem wise) when purchasing a used IM.

btw.. thanks a lot for the help

there is not much that could be wrong with it. only thing i can think of is broken vacuum fittings...but i doubt that would happen. Good Luck.

not even 8whp, if you are using stock cams, MAYBE if you had aftermarket cams
more like loose some low end and gain like 2 on the high side...

I think it depends on your entire setup, and also if you have that motor running in a civic you could have disableb your secondary runners anyway, so you would notice a huge difference.

disabling the secondaries and leaving them open on a stock motor is gonna hurt low and mid range.....not notice a huge gain....
they are there for a reason

quick question, kinda on but off the subject. when getting your ecu chipped or pregrogramed would it be benifical to have the secondaries open closer to when the Vtec engages or at the same point? Just thought i'd ask cause i always wondered

It would not be good to open secondaries when vtec engages, because it would cause the car to bog
the secondaries are the reason why vtec engages so early in the b18c1

I said if he had disabled his secondary runners, then ***using the skunk2 manifold would make a huge difference because of the reasons you stated!!!*** I wasn't saying that he would gain from disabling them...
