type r cam swaps
i dont usually have a lot of time for research so i thought that i would go right to the source for this question. i ve heard of si and gsr owwners installing itr intake cams and ctr exhaust cams in a stock valvetrain head and gaining good amounts of power. is this true, or is it recommended to change the valve train?
the cams won't give that much power... aftermarket cams yield out better results but not much is needed to be done to the head with the ITR or CTR cams, maybe just get new retainers? that's about it. not a good amount ofpower though.
type-r cams are still good dont let anyone tell you otherwise. if your head port and polished, even better. No valvetrain work at all more power from 7500 to 8500
When I dynoed my CTR cams I gain about 8lbs-ft of torque, but lost 5 Hp, and it can be felt all the way through the rpms. I have yet to tune it, so I am hoping to get the Hp back, and keep most of the torque. And you're safe to 8000 rpms for sure, beyond that, I would advise at least the ITR/CTR valvetrain.
