My friend asked me to find out on Honda-Tech and I can't believe it, but no one has asked it on here yet. He wants to put 2 block guards on his B18C; one in the middle of the cylinders and one at the top. I told him I doubt this would protect his sleeves from cracking anymore than one would, and it could reduce his cooling capacity even further. He is shooting for about 500 WHP on stock sleeves and forged internals and his block is at the machine shop right now about to have the first block guard installed and he wanted me to find out before he bought another one. Anyone have some information I can take to him?

blockguards only keep the cylinders from walking. They arent going to stop them from cracking. I dont see any benefits in installing a second blockguard down in the middle of the water jacket. Like you said, prolly will hurt more than help.
Trying to press in two block guards would cause distortion in the cylinders. Also it will be a challenge getting it half way down straight which will cause distortion in the cylinders. We get blocks in all the time that have block guards and with cracked cylinders. It will also disrupt your water flow to the head.

Closed deck via block guards FTW!
JP - Thanks for the input everyone. I'll tell my friend what I originally thought - bad idea
