well i've been considering wraping my POS ebay header, am going to 1200* coat it and bake it, then use DEI wrap and silicon spray. the header is mild steel but seeing that it cost $90 i dont care if it rusts. Lets get out off the myths and truths about header wraps. does anyone actually have pics to prove the wrap caused a header to crack? if so i havent seen them. post up what you think of the stuff
OK here we go.Header wraps help reduce engine bay temps.,but heres the price. The mild steel gets hardened by the high temps that it can't release because of the insulation.Condensation forms between the wrap and the pipe and rusts and pits it.Wrapping ss tubing isn't as much of a problem.I've used it many times in the past, but not very often now because coatings work almost as well without the drawbacks.Wrapping headers will always reduce there life, the cheaper the quicker.

Sorry to drag this out of the grave, but what about DC Ceramic header? I'm bout to buy one for my friend's D16Y8 and was thinking bout wrapping it but wanted to know the effects. I read the effects on ss header but what bout ceramic? Or is there no need cuz it's ceramic? TIA.

The above posts talk about header wrap on ceramic coated headers. Ceramic headers are made with mild steel, and therefore are affected by the wrap. Stainless steel headers don't really need header wrap, since SS is a poor conductor of heat.

maybe im not following thise correctly, but if exhaust temperatures reach 800+degrees F. how will condensation form between the wrap and the header itself. I guess when the car is off is when you are talking about? I remember someone posting Pictures of his DC ceramic header that was wrapped for over a year (i think) the portion covered by the wrap looked brand new, while the rest began to rust.
*edit* i just found a pretty good thread about wrap's: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=454373
