I was told header wrap corrodes the header internally. Has anyone else heard this? Or know if it is true? Another thing, if anyone has put some on could you tell me your story on wrapping it. Leaving gaps for 02 sensors or what not. Thanks.

I am interested in this as well...I saw some awesome black header wrap that would definately clean up the engine bay and would probably help keep heat out of the engine bay considerably.

btw, header wrap is probably one of the better , cheaper things you can do to your engine. keeps the bay alot cooler. therefore, increasing h.p.

people have told me that it looks like the ceramic coating on my dc header has worn off and thats why i have some rust. if that is the case can i wrap it now? also i would only wrap the primary pipe with the 4 pipes, not the 2 or the collector.

i heard that header wrap cuts down the life of the header. is this true? i have DC Sport ceramic headers so would it be safe and usefull to wrap em?

The only thing bad header wrap will do is keep moister on the metal therefore making it rust faster. that's only if the wrap stays wet for prolonged amount of time. If you paint the surface then wrap it it should last a long time

the header doesnt cool down. The radiant heat the header gives off is ruduced. If anything, it should make the exhaust system hotter, thefore faster exhaust flow through whatever given size piping.

I was always told that wrapping headers keeps the exhaust gases hotter therefor keeping the velocity of the gases at a maximum. I could be wrong but the faster the gases go out, the more HP.

ditto, i've read that on a bunch of write ups. my only concern is header wear, i want to have my headers for atleast a couple more years, just wondering if its possible to last that long with wrapped headers...

dont wrap that. if ur in my situation, where the ceramic coating is gone, then u can.

at least thats what i heard. im still waiting for my answer.

also for me, i would only wrap top 4 pipes, and that rarely gets wet.

Aight man wrapping a header. Does a couple things. Yes it does reduce the heat under your hood. But if you think about it\. All that held in heat. Stays in the header. What does heat cause. Hmmm.... Moisture. What does Moisture cause? Hmm.. Rust. And we all know what rust causes. Trust me don't wrap your header. I have known 4 people that have had thier headers colapse during a race. From wrapping them.

if you look at the picture you can see the rust pits are in the design of the wrap.

honestly i wouldn't wrap a ceramic header, if anything get some of that heat resistant paint or have it powder coated.

but thats just my opinion after sanding one down after the wrap melted and pitted the hell out of it....

i have always wrapped my headers. mine are stainless though, so rust isn;t a problem. BUT, they do crack due to excessive heat in them. it's ok though, i repaired my toda 2x because it cracked, and i will continue to do so as i think the benefit for my particular car far outweighs occasional welding.

WTF heat causes moisture?

actually the moisture from weather (i.e. rain, humid days) can actually get inbetween the wrap and metal and corrode the metal.

Mista Bone's header is ceramic coated- which prevents moisture from really hitting the metal, and why his header lasted so well. I would not reccomend this on bare metal surfaces... best would be to either paint, then wrap
