Default turboing half your engine?

just thinking about it in math class...

say u have a v8 or something...

and have two different exhaust manifolds...
-one for 6 pipes
-one for 2 pipes.

for one of them, 6 or 2, could u connect it to a turbocharger system/etc whereas the rest to a normal exhaust system?

im simply asking if this could work (and if there is any documentation on it).

--not asking about why, how much hp, etc etc

thanks

I think that is what the F1 toyota engines are running. V8's with 1/2 n/a and 1/2 turbo. Dont quote me on this but I am pretty sure. Those things sound crazy *** hell though.

I've been told that back in the 70's there was a domestic v8 car that had one side (4cyl) turbocharged and the other not...the problem is that it will run REALLY rough, because half the cylinders will be making much more power than the others!

well no, you feed the boost to the whole engine, not only the snailed side.

v8's usually use a single intake manifold, so in theory the 6 or 2 cylinders would still be feeding turbo boost to the whole engine..

Pretty sure forced induction is still banned from F1. I'm not sure I see the point in this, though. FI and NA engines have different needs to be at peak performance, it sounds like this would just compliucate things.

its possible but the more cylendars the quicker spool time. the quicker spool time the faster to go...so its possible but better off with all running.
