Default Tuning world (or is it)

I really dont understand the majority of Honda enthusiasts in North America? Why is it that in Japan, most sports car enthusiasts participate in performence driving while in America we have things like import shows and 1/4 mile racing? I believe that people can do what they want, but I respect Soichiro's vision of a performance car for the purpose of circuit performance and I find it insulting that some people dont respect that. Does anyone else share my views on the North American Honda scene? Im not trying to insult anyone, im trying to see if people actually like Hondas for its essence in motorsports.

u can thank that infamous movie for the "i live my life a 1/4 mile at a time" mentality. i personally enjoy all aspects of racing and really could care less about drag racing. although i've never actually auto-crossed or been to a trackday i would love to much more so than going straight.

Setting up a honda and usesing it for Auto-X, and/or road racing is waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy more fun, than making a car for show (IMO). And streat racing is like running in the special olimpics, your might win but your still retarded!

Twenty years ago, I was drifting RX-7s and setting up corner weights to optimize handling. That is where our business started. It is a shame to see it is more show and less go. There is something just so sweet about a car that handles as well as it accelerates. I wonder how many people have bought coil-overs to "slam" the car vs. those that bought them to corner weight the car...kind of sad.

I love all forms of racing, including rallyX, drag, autoX, etc.. I agree that the road racing type events challenge every aspect of car development and can be the most fun.

I think we all love to drive and building horsepower is something we had to learn to better our driving experience.

GOOD POST!

make whatever assumptions about the US auto industry you want from this but, in my part of the country (detroit) dragways are 4x as numerous as tracks.

i think grouping drag racing in with car shows is tabun chiyouto chiyau ya na. there is an immense amount of technical skill that goes into making a good 1/4 mile, street legal car.

sorry for the disagreement, but ive "had it up to here" with stereo-typical japanese self rightous opinions (not that thats what i think your post is, reffering to the specific mention of a "leading figure's opinion). personal endorsement doesnt count as justification in my book, just look at Shigeru Miamoto or Riyuchi Sakamoto. Those guy's names are like a name brand, but whatever genious they might have had has since been diluted i think.

or maybe im just still pissed that they DETUNED THE H22 DAMNIT!!!!!!

great post, again im not *hating* but disagreed on a few points, and the presented logic.

ps- great to see guys from lightning posting here, i just orderd some motor inserts from you... good doing buisness with you.

well, my opinion will be slightly biased since I grew up helping my pops wrench on his Datsun road racer and dreamed of one day being able to actually drive it instead of sitting in it in the garage pretending to drive. I'm a huge fan of autoX and road-racing....partly because of the adrenaline rush, partly because of the fact that once you become good enough in each your car is no longer your car, it's sort of an extension of your body, you know what it's gonnna do and at exactly what moment it's going to do it. I don't not like import or FWD drag racing....I just don't know why people choose to drag race cars that, by the nature of their design, will be traction limited no matter what you do. Maybe they see it as a challenge, and that's ok. Drag racing involves just as much skill as autoX or roadracing. Most importantly, this is america, where we can actually do what we want!!!

i like this post!

EDIT: i need to learn how to spell

I just want to know the name and address of the guy who first thought it was a good idea to put a huge aluminum wing on a street car. I mean.... i can't talk about it right now. I just get too worked up.

As far as why guys race cars that are traction limited by nature of their design, well I guess in a perfect world we'd all be racing rail cars and for that matter why is there a truck series in stock car racing? I'm not going to spend so much time worrying about it and just enjoy it, I love the sport however I can get.
